Players noted Bloober Team's fidelity to the original, improved gameplay, dark atmosphere, and high-quality graphics. Critics also responded favorably to the remake, giving it scores of 86-87 out of 100 on Metacritic, depending on the platform.

The peak online presence for the Silent Hill 2 remake on Steam currently stands at 14,900 people. This is relatively modest, but it is likely to increase by the evening. In any case, the new release is already the second most popular game by Bloober Team on Steam. The only game boasting a higher number of simultaneous players is Layers of Fear, with 145,300.
