The creation of the next Mass Effect could require hundreds of millions of dollars, warned one of BioWare's founders, Trent Oster. He believes that those eager for the game's development should keep this in mind.

Oster gave this assessment in a post on the social network X. He explained that the audience expects Mass Effect 5 to be of the same quality as top-tier AAA games. Considering the budgets of comparable projects, it could involve $200 million or more.

“This is a substantial amount that needs to be allocated in advance. A comprehensive plan for utilizing the intellectual property must be developed to make the figures add up,” Oster added.

However, the BioWare co-founder does not rule out that an experienced team with a disciplined approach might develop the game for less money.

Oster also commented on the SaveMassEffect movement, which advocates for saving Mass Effect 5. He admitted that he enjoys seeing the fans' passionate energy, and it even made him consider reassembling the original Mass Effect development team. Previously, gamers launched a special petition requesting not to halt the franchise's development — to date, it has been signed by 306,000 people.
