The Belgian government is going to support game developers. The authorities want to provide studios with so—called “tax shelters” – benefits that allow them to reduce taxes or evade their payment.

According to officials, thanks to “tax havens”, it will become easier for developers to attract financing from investors. In Belgium, similar benefits already apply to some other industries, for example, cinema.

Only those studios where at least half of the team works in Belgium will be able to receive benefits. Also, the games will have to pass a cultural check.

The initiative has not yet received official approval from the Belgian Federal Parliament and the European Commission. But it is assumed that it will work no later than January 1, 2023.
