The financial details and full terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but it is known that Red Hook Studios will retain creative independence and operational control over its projects.
In an interview with Game Developer, Red Hook Studios co-founders Tyler Sigman and Chris Bourassa shared that the deal with Behaviour Interactive will provide their studio with stability. Additionally, it will now enable them to expand Darkest Dungeon into a larger franchise.
Notably, the acquisition of Red Hook Studios took place less than a week after Behaviour Interactive closed Midwinter Entertainment. The latter had been working on the canceled shooter Project T in the Dead by Daylight universe. Behaviour Interactive CEO Rémi Racine explained to Game Developer that after the cancellation of Project T, Midwinter Entertainment no longer had active projects. Behaviour Interactive could have merged the teams from Midwinter Entertainment and Red Hook Studios, but at best, this would have taken a year. This meant the company would have had to keep Midwinter Entertainment operational without receiving any products in return.
Racine added that the acquisition of Red Hook Studios was part of a strategic shift at Behaviour Interactive. Recall that in June 2024, the company announced its intention to focus on creating horror games.
