In 2023, 25 games have already been released, which received at least 90 points out of 100 on Metacritic, Axios calculated. This is a record for at least 20 years.
As Axios notes, on average, half as many games with such a rating are released every year. In 20 years, there have been only four years in which more than 20 new products had a rating on Metacritic of 90 points or higher: 2004, 2007, 2011 and 2023.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (96 points), Baldur's Gate 3 (96 points), the remake of Resident Evil 4 (93 points) and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (90 points) were in the top of the most highly rated games of 2023.
