Atari has agreed to purchase the American studio Digital Eclipse, which is engaged in preserving the game history. The maximum size of the transaction will be $20 million.
Atari will pay $6.5 million immediately. Digital Eclipse will be able to receive the remaining $13.5 million over the next ten years — the amount will depend on the financial results of the studio.
Atari and Digital Eclipse have worked together before. They collaborated during the development of an interactive documentary about Atari in the form of a collection of retro games Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration.
Digital Eclipse was founded in 1992. Since then, she has released more than 250 titles, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, Disney Classic Games Collection, Mega Man Legacy Collection and Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection.
