AMD could have gone bankrupt without the PlayStation 4 console, claims Renato Fragale, Senior Director of Client Business at AMD. He mentioned this in the description of his LinkedIn profile.
Fragale called the launch of the PlayStation 4 one of the most successful in AMD's history. He did not disclose how much AMD earned from it.
The PlayStation 4 was Sony's first console to use an AMD processor. In 2013, Tony Tamasi, former Vice President of Content and Technology at NVIDIA, stated that NVIDIA could have been Sony's partner in producing the PlayStation 4 instead of AMD, but after negotiations, NVIDIA deemed the partnership unprofitable.
