Neural networks have become a standard tool for Japanese studios involved in the development of online games. Every team surveyed by the Japanese gaming association JOGA employs them in some capacity.

According to the study, Google Gemini is the most popular generative AI. It is used by 94% of the developers surveyed. Following are Claude with a 84% share and GitHub Copilot with a 76% share.

It is reported that Japanese studios most frequently assign AI tasks related to analyzing user preferences and predicting their behavior.

However, many gamers surveyed by JOGA are not thrilled about the extensive spread of AI. They particularly fear that all online games will now start to look the same, and they are also concerned about compliance with copyright laws.

Separately, JOGA noted that by the end of 2025, the volume of the Japanese online gaming market reached 989.9 billion yen ($6.1 billion). It is unspecified whether this is more or less than the results for 2024, but in any case, the amount is significant.
