Author Kelsey Martineau has filed a lawsuit against Bungie, accusing the studio of plagiarism. He claims that the developers borrowed many plot elements from his work for the "Red War" campaign in Destiny 2.

For instance, Martineau pointed out that both his work and Destiny 2 feature a militant faction called the Red Legion. Furthermore, the origins and motives of the leaders of the two Legions are "nearly identical" — both were societal outcasts, supported by exiled mentors, and during the main events, both sought to capture a significant object in Earth's orbit.

Martineau also identified technologies in the game that were mentioned in his works. He considered it plagiarism as well, citing plot elements such as clashes with rebels and the quest for powerful weapons and relics.

According to the author, Bungie used his work due to a lack of time. He recalled that, according to journalist Jason Schreier, the studio allegedly had only 16 months to develop Destiny 2.

Martineau wants the court to compel Bungie to compensate him for copyright infringement and stop distributing the contentious content.
