The GamesIndustry portal, based on data from the IIDEA association, published statistics on the Italian gaming market.

Let’s go through the main figures:

In 2022, there were 14.2 million gamers in Italy. This is 32% of the total population of the country. It is worth noting that the number of gamers in Italy has been declining for the third year in a row. For comparison, in 2021, 15.5 million Italians played video games, and in 2020 — 16.7 million Italians;

▪️80.9% of Italian gamers are over 18 years old;

▪️mostly men are fond of video games. Their 58% among gamers;

▪️69.7% of Italian gamers play on consoles. Also, 45.8% play on PC, and 38% — on smartphones;

▪️69.7% of the survey participants said that they play at least an hour a week. 19.7% play for about an hour a month, and 10.6% play only a few times a year;

In 2022, Italians bought 11.5 million copies of games. The best-selling retail games were FIFA 23, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, FIFA 22, GTA V, Elden Ring and God of War: Ragnarök.

GamesIndustry does not write how much the Italian gaming market earned in 2022, but notes that revenue from console sales alone amounted to €287 million. This is 10% less compared to 2021.
