The developers of Godot have released a new version of their engine, numbered 4.4. It has been eight months since the release of the previous version, 4.3.
Several key innovations include:
- The Jolt Physics engine is now integrated directly into Godot as an alternative to Godot Physics. Previously, it functioned as a plugin, and users had to install it manually. Currently, it's an experimental option;
- The updated engine allows developers to run the game directly in the editor window and make changes on the fly;
- The Godot team has taken the "first steps" in adding support for the OpenXR standard for mixed reality headsets. Now the engine supports the Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S, and Meta Quest Pro headsets [all belong to Meta, a company recognized as extremist and banned in Russia. — Ed. Note];
- Support for uber shaders — precompiled versions of each shader with all their capabilities — has been added;
- Physics interpolation for 3D objects has been introduced.
More details about the new version of the engine can be read in the Godot blog.
