It’s NetEase’s turn to report for the final quarter of 2018 and for the whole year. The Chinese media company has many successes.
Knives OutQuarterly figures
- NetEase’s revenue for the quarter was $2.8 billion. In annual terms, they grew by 35.8%.
- $1.6 billion of the amount above brought online games. They earned 37.7% more than in the fourth quarter of 2017. The rest of the publisher’s revenue came from advertising services and e-commerce.
- The publisher’s profit reached $1.1 billion, which is 33.3% more in annual terms, according to Gamesindustry.biz .
- The profit growth was due to increased revenue from Knives Out, Chu Liu Xiang and Indentity V. By the way, the first of these games turned out to be the most earning battle royale in the App Store in November 2018.
Annual figures
- The company’s annual revenue exceeded $9.8 billion dollars. This is a quarter more than the revenue for 2017.
- Online games brought in $5.8 billion of the total amount, which is 11% more than in 2017. Mobile titles are responsible for 71% of all revenue.
- The annual profit reached $4.1 billion dollars. In 2017, for comparison, the profit was at the level of $3.8 billion.
- The profit growth for the year is due to the growth of revenue from the company’s own mobile games — the same Knives Out and Chu Liu Xiang. But NetEase also noted the great contribution of MMORPG Justice Online for PC.
The fact that the Chinese media giant is doing well was also indicated by its recent purchase of a minority stake in Quantic Dream, the creator of Detroit: Become Human. And before that, in 2018, NetEase was constantly buying new assets (for example, Bungie shares). The publisher’s report says that the company plans to continue investing in studios around the world.
