The Witcher trilogy has sold 50 million copies

This is reported by the official Twitter account of the franchise. The calculations did not take into account the sales of two “Witcher” spin-offs — the card “Gwint” and “Blood Feud”.

As reported by Gamesindustry.biz, over the past year, the trilogy about Geralt of Rivia has sold about 10 million copies. From January to December 2019, the publisher sold 6 million copies of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Its sales were higher only in the release year (they amounted to 9 million).

Recall that last year the third “Witcher” was released on the Nintendo Switch. In addition, in the fall, Netflix released the first season of the series based on the book “The Witcher Saga”. After that, sales of the online game series also increased by an order of magnitude.

The announcement of the achievement was timed to coincide with the presentation of CD Projekt on the financial results of the 1st quarter of 2020. It became the most profitable in its history:

• CD Projekt’s revenue for January-March in annual terms jumped 2.5 times (to $47.8 million);
• net profit increased fivefold (to $24 million);
• The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt made the biggest contribution to sales.
