Hammer Studio & Chisel of Jason Citron, the creator of the OpenFeint mobile social gaming platform, has received funding from the Chinese corporation Tencent and the Benchmark Capital fund. The amount of investment is not called.
The previous investment round brought the studio $8.2 million.
With the money received, the studio’s management plans to conduct marketing research.
This is what Citron says about it: “Investments from Tencent are in order to properly study the market. It takes time for a company to find its place in business. Even Supercell had mistakes, they were constantly evolving – until they created their own hit. Just like Blizzard. We have huge opportunities ahead of us. In a market where there are 850 million smartphone users, and where $20 billion has already been earned on shareware projects, there will definitely be 100 million users and $1 million of revenue for us.”
