The creator of the Vainglory mobile MOBA, Super Evil Megacorop, received an investment of $26 million. One of the investors was the Russian entrepreneur Yuri Milner, co-owner Mail.ru Group and DST Global. The head of the company, Kristian Segerstrale, told about this in the studio’s blog.
Super Evil Megacorop will spend money to make Vainglory “the first esports game for the mass consumer.”
The investment round was led by the Index Ventures venture fund. The funds also came from Russian entrepreneur Yuri Milner, business angel Jim Breyer from Breyer Capital and Korea Investment Partners fund. Signia Venture Partners, General Catalyst, Raine Ventures, Initial Capital and Cross Cut have already invested in the studio.
Segerstrole promised that Super Evil Megacorop will continue to develop. One of the key points in this development will be the studio’s entry into the Chinese market. To this end, the company began working with Giant Interactive, a local publisher and developer of hardcore PC games. Together, the two studios optimize Vainglory for the Chinese market.
To mark two significant events for the studio, the next two pairs of weekends (August 14-16 and August 21-23) at Vainglory will become “Double Glory Weekend” (Double Glory Weekend). Double points will be awarded for winning the match.
Recall that in May, Super Evil Megacorp held a series of Vainglory matches together with the ESL European Esports League. It became the first MOBA on mobile devices to host esports competitions.
