Rovio has published a financial report for the first quarter of 2021 (ended March 31). He didn’t do well. Almost all of the company’s indicators have fallen compared to the first quarter of last year. Only revenue has grown. It amounted to €67.1 million.

- Rovio’s total revenue increased by 0.7% compared to the first quarter of 2020 (€66.6 million);
- at the same time, operating profit fell by 25.1% and amounted to €9.5 million;
- EBITDA also decreased sharply — by 25.9% year-on-year to €11.8 million.;
- but the biggest drop was shown by net operating cash flow, which immediately collapsed by 78.3%. In the first quarter of 2021, it amounted to only €2.5 million, while in the same period of 2020 it was €11.5 million.
Alex Pelletier-Normand, CEO of the company, explained the drop in performance by increasing spending on UA, buying two studios, preparing for the release of Darkfire Heroes and some “use of features found in games like Small Town Murders.” The COVID-19 pandemic also contributed, because of which Rovio’s sales decreased in all categories.

- Angry Birds 2 continues to earn well. In the first quarter of 2021, the game received € 25.2 million in net receipts (gross bookings) — €200 thousand more than it was in January-March 2020. And the total earnings of the title from the day of release at the end of July 2015 finally overcame the milestone of € 500 million.;
- The performance of Angry Birds Dream Blast increased slightly compared to the fourth quarter of 2020. Its revenues amounted to €15.4 million, which is €200 thousand more. This is due to a significant reworking of the game itself. But relative to sales for the first quarter of 2020, they fell by 0.7%;
- Angry Birds Friends remains one of the stable games of Rovio. This time she earned €8.1 million — 44% more than a year ago;
- The Small Town Murders, released at the end of 2019, had an income of €3.9 million. This is €3.7 million more than it was in the first quarter of 2020.
- In January, a new game joined the Finnish company’s wide portfolio: Angry Birds Journey (still in the softlonch stage). While the data on it is not disclosed;
- In April, Rovio released Supernatural City in the softphone and held a global release at Darkfire Heroes. However, April belongs to the second quarter, so the figures for these projects will not be seen until July.
