Sales of Switch and games for it please Nintendo. For two and a half years, 52 million consoles of the Japanese company and 310.6 million Switch copies of games have been sold in the world.

This is reported in the Nintendo report for the last nine months of 2019. We should immediately note that strong sales during that period allowed the company to raise its annual forecast. In the current fiscal year, it plans to earn $11.48 billion and make a profit of $2.75 billion. Previously, Nintendo had forecast a profit of $2.38 billion.

Console

  • Switch surpassed the sales of a number of previous Nintendo consoles. For example, SNES (its circulation is 49.1 million) and Wii U (circulation is 13.5 million). To exceed the Wii result (101.63 million units), Nintendo must double the current sales of the Switch.
  • The pace of console implementation has increased thanks to the launch of a lightweight version — Nintendo Switch Lite — and the start of sales of devices to China through Tencent. According to Polygon sources, this pace is significantly ahead of Xbox One sales. It also sells faster than the Nintendo 3DS, PS2 and PS4, according to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad.
  • In April-December 2019, Switch sales in units increased by 22.5% compared to the same period last year. A total of 17.74 million consoles were sold.

Games

  • Sales of copies of games for Switch in April-December 2019 increased by 30.1% compared to the same period last year. The result in pieces is 123.1 million .
  • Nintendo Switch Online revenue and other digital expenses rose 48.3% year-on-year. Nintendo’s earnings here exceeded $1.1 billion.
  • The absolute hits are Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. They were released in November, but 16 million copies have already been sold worldwide.
  • In addition, the latest IP Mario games are selling well. Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Super Mario Maker 2 sold 5 million copies each. The number of copies of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold for Switch has completely exceeded 22.96 million. That’s more than Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (17.68 million) and Super Mario Odyssey (16.59 million).
