Wind Runner

The authors of last year’s blockbuster Wind Runner reported that in the first quarter of 2014 they earned “only” $19.3 million on mobile games. This is 44% less than the company’s sales a year ago.

The reason for such significant losses is the decline in popularity of one of the main hits of the company – the runner Wind Runner. Apparently, having lost the main feature on Kakao and Line, the company’s high revenues also declined (at least, our British colleagues from PocketGamer are sure that the reason for the drop in revenue is the decline in the popularity of the game on these social platforms). In total, the game was downloaded more than 30 million times in South Korea and Japan over the year.

Casual sales, for which Wind Runner was largely responsible, have almost halved.

Is this the end for WeMade?

Of course not.

The company’s new mobile hardcore project – MMORPG Ark Sphere generates about $5 million per month. Hardcore Heroes of Altan and Everytown also perform well. Wind Runner 2 is on the way, as well as casual Ark Sphere and Puzzle Cat.

As for the current drop, it only demonstrates that casual box office hits, if they cannot hold users for a long time, quickly collapse on a number of indicators, which does not have a very nice effect on quarterly reports.
