Arkadium has launched the Twisty Hollow project, which we have already written about before, on iOS. The game at first glance is no different from its own kind. However, our colleagues from GameBeat are sure that using the example of this title, you can see how the attitude of major publishers to the release of casual games has changed.
Arkadium is a major publisher and developer who specializes mainly in casual games and therefore knows first-hand that the market is crowded and it is difficult to please the user. Even if a company releases a lot of projects, this does not guarantee success: they give a total shaft, but no more. In such conditions, you need to be able to stand out with something, you need a project that will “shoot”. Arkadium puts on creativity and harsh selection.
“We are very picky. We do the same thing as all the other studios – we “kill” some games even before they come out. We develop four or six projects, and then get rid of two or four of them. It’s not easy, because you invest in them emotionally. But this is the right way in the face of such fierce competition,” said Jessica Rovello, co-founder and president of Arkadium.
The characters look like they are cut out of paper, and the user must match the “layers” on the wheel during the game. Tasks in the game are given by the crazy mayor of the city. In general, all the signs of an indie project, except that it was made by a quite solid large company.
Perhaps this is the only way to stand out for casual projects – to copy the approach of “free artists”.
“I think we managed to make a game with a truly original gameplay. This is not a three-in-a-row or a puzzle, but something in between these two genres.”
GameBeat Let’s add that the game has been released only on iOS so far.
It can be downloaded from the link; the cost of the title is 99 rubles.
