Thomas Hertzler, founder of Blue Byte and creator of The Settlers series of games, is returning to the gaming industry with a new company Stratotainment. The first item on Herzler’s agenda is to restart Battle Isle.
The last game in a series of turn-based sci-fi strategies was released back in 2000. Then Battle Isle: The Andosia War (it is, in fact, the fourth part) I have gathered far from the best press. At that time, everyone was trying to switch to 3D, as well as actively experimenting with mechanics. Some of them did it. But Blue Byte’s attempt was not the most successful.
Time, apparently, has not taught Herzler anything. Like thirteen years ago, in the new game, he promises “something innovative“, instead of going back to the origins. We are talking about the fact that now iOS lacks an easy-to-learn, bright wargame (casual in presentation, hardcore in fact).
Stratotainment is due to release Battle Isle: Threshold Run for iOS (the only announced platform) in the fourth quarter of this year. Interestingly, the release of Battle Worlds Kronos, the developers of which took the original Battle Isle as a basis, is scheduled for the same period.
