Sony Pictures Entertainment sold GSN Games, the developers of the slots, two years after the purchase. Scopely became the new owner of the studio. The deal cost the mobile publisher “almost a billion dollars.”

The exact amount of the company was not named, as well as all the terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
It is known that Scopely will transfer half of the amount in cash, and the rest in the form of preferred capital. As a result, Sony Pictures Entertainment will get a minority share of Scopely.
According to Tim O’Brien, CFO of Scopely, the acquisition of GSN Games will allow his company to increase the audience in games.
“We are buying a strong company, which we are going to develop even more with the help of our publishing and technological infrastructures. This acquisition will allow us to further expand the base of loyal players. GSN Games has established itself as an experienced company with a reliable and incredibly profitable business. We are looking forward to a great future together,” commented O’Brien.
This is not the first time GSN Games has changed ownership. In 2007, Liberty Media bought the studio (it was after this deal that the studio became known as GSN Games, before it worked under the name WorldWinner). The developers moved to Sony Pictures Entertainment in 2019, when the film company began to control 100% of the shares of the Game Show Network (GSN) TV channel, of which GSN Games was a division.
GSN Games itself was founded in 2000. To date, the studio has developed games such as Solitaire TriPeaks, Bingo Bash and GSN Casino Slots Games.
Scopely has been actively investing in gaming companies lately. For example, in July, she invested $50 million in three mobile studios at once — Omnidrone, Pixel Toys and Tag Games.
