Nordisk Games has acquired 40% of the MercurySteam studio, known for the game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. This is the first deal of a Danish company outside the Nordic countries. The exact size of the deal was not disclosed, but Nordisk Games calls this amount “significant”.

“MercurySteam is one of the key PC and console developers in Europe, and we are proud to announce that the studio will become part of our company,” said Martin Walfisz, senior partner at Nordisk Games.

The Spanish studio MercurySteam was founded in 2002 and became famous for developing games such as Clive Barker’s Jericho, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metroid: Samus Returns. The latest title of the company was the free-play online action game Spacelords, which was released in 2017 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

At the moment, MercurySteam has 160 employees, and the studio is developing several new projects for PCs and consoles at once.

After buying part of MercurySteam, Nordisk Games’ portfolio expanded to eight game studios and publishers, including Avalanche Studios, Nitro Games and Raw Fury.
