Miniclip, which is majority owned by the Chinese giant Tencent, has announced an expansion. The company acquired the British developer Supersonic Software, known for games like Puzzle Page and Picture Cross, and its subsidiary studio Appynation.Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

It is known that Supersonic Software (not to be confused with hypercausal publisher Supersonic Games) will become the fourth studio from the UK owned by Miniclip. The purchase will help the company gain a foothold in the puzzle segment.

According to Pete Williamson, CEO of Supersonic Software, moving under the wing of a larger company is an important step for an independent studio. He noted that the expertise and resources available to Miniclip will allow Supersonic to be taken to a new level.

Supersonic Software has been on the market since 1988. Initially, the studio specialized in console games and became famous thanks to the Micro Machines series, but at the beginning of the tenth it completely switched to mobile development. Now the company, together with its subsidiary studio Appynation, specializes in puzzles. Among her most successful titles are World’s Biggest Crossword, Puzzle Page, One Clue Crossword and Picture Cross.

Miniclip was founded in 2001, and in 2015, the Chinese company Tencent acquired a majority stake in the studio. The company has such projects as Agar.io , 8 Ball Pool, Golf Battle and Football Strike, and their total number of downloads has already exceeded 2 billion.

Over the past two years, Miniclip has invested in other studios more than once. Among her main purchases are Playsport (authors of Motorsport Manager), Eight Pixels Square (creators of Sniper Strike), Green Horse Games (developers of Football Rivals), Masomo (authors of Head Ball 2) and Yakuto (creators of Darts of Fury).
