Swedish Embracer Group continues to buy studios en masse. Now four companies have joined the ranks of the holding at once, three of which have come under the control of THQ Nordic. Below is a brief overview of acquisitions.
Outcast: Second ContactThe composition of THQ Nordic included:
- Appeal Studios is a Belgian studio that developed the action-adventure movie Outcast and its remake Outcast: Second Contact. Now her team is engaged in an unannounced sci-fi adventure with an open world;
- KAIKO is a developer from Frankfurt, known for numerous ports and remasters. Her works include: Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, Legend of Kay Anniversary, Darksiders: Warmed, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition and Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning with the upcoming Fatesworn expansion;
- Massive Miniteam is a small studio from Pulheim, Germany. This is the first purchase of the HandyGames studio, which is part of THQ Nordic. Together they will work on several common projects.
Note that THQ Nordic also founded the Gate21 studio in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She will focus on creating 3D characters.
The Amplifier Game Invest includes:
- FRAME BREAK is a five—person Swedish studio founded last year. She will develop games based on her own IP, paying special attention to multiplayer on PC and consoles.
In total, all transactions cost Embracer Group 71 million Swedish kronor ($8.5 million). Over the next five years, the holding can pay the studios another 53 million Swedish kronor ($6.3 million), if it is satisfied with their financial performance.
Currently, there are 68 internal studios in the ranks of the Embracer Group. In total, they employ more than 7.1 thousand employees.
