In 2016, the volume of the esports market will amount to $892.8 million. In 2 years, this figure will reach $ 1.1 billion, – this estimate was shared by the analytical company SuperData Research.
Compared to the previous year, player spending on esports increased by 36%. It is already known that in 2016, users will spend $ 230 million on tickets, merch and payments to the prize fund.
And $661 million of the $892.8 million will be for advertising and sponsored content.
Asia remains the leading player in the industry so far: the volume of the local market will amount to $328 million by the end of 2016. North America is in second place with $275 million. For Europe, the figure will be equal to $269 million.
SuperData Research evaluates the audience of esports games as follows: most of the players (85%) are masculine. Half of the players (46%) are between the ages of 18 and 25. Esports competitions in 2016 will be watched by 213.8 million people. By 2019, this number will be 303 million.
It should be noted that the forecasts of other analytical companies regarding esports are more modest. So, Newzoo believes that the volume of this market by 2018 will be only $ 765 million.
