The authorities do not have time to process requests from gaming companies left over from last year.
Last year’s ban on the publication of new games in China did not remain without consequences. Too many applications from gaming companies have accumulated in nine months. And so, according to Reuters, Chinese regulators have asked local authorities not to send them new license requests.
As three informed sources told the agency, the General Administration of Press and Publications of China (SAPP) will have to consider about 5 thousand more applications. Only after that, the regional authorities will be allowed to form new lists of game projects.
Gaming companies can still submit their applications to regional authorities, one source noted, but they will not reach SAPP. This information was confirmed by an official of the department interviewed by the publication ThePaper.cn .
Recall that the Celestial Empire blocked the issuance of licenses for the publication of games on March 28 last year. The pause lasted nine months. Since the end of December, the games have been issued identification numbers again. In a month and a half, the authorities approved the publication of about 250 games.
