The American company Topdog has completed a seed funding round amounting to $2.5 million. This round was led by Boston Seed Capital, with participation from Raine Group, Bullpen Capital, Versus Ventures, and several other investors.
With the inclusion of previous investments, Topdog's total capital raised now amounts to $4.1 million.
According to Topdog's statement, the new funding will be used to expand its lineup of real-money, multiplayer sports games. Additionally, it will allocate part of the funds towards accelerating user acquisition.
One of the investors, Peter Blacklow, Managing Director of Boston Seed Capital, highlighted the significant potential he sees in Topdog. In his view, the company may eventually create a new key category in the iGaming market. The reason is that they focus not just on real-money sports games, but on skill-based projects — where outcomes are determined by users' skills instead of chance. This distinction means they are not classified as gambling games and are not subject to regulatory oversight.
