Authorities in Alberta have announced that the iGaming market and online sports betting sector will begin to be regulated in the province starting July 13, 2026. This date was confirmed by Alberta’s Minister of Culture, Dale Nally, in a letter to industry representatives.

As a result, Alberta will become the second province in Canada to have a regulated commercial online gambling segment, following Ontario, where similar laws have been in effect since April 2022.

In January, following the approval of legislative amendments, the province started accepting applications from operators and service providers. To enter the market, companies must register with a special commission (AGLC) and then sign an agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation. This must also be completed by June 13.

For comparison, in Ontario, the volume of sports betting reached 35.6 billion Canadian dollars in the first year of regulation, with iGaming revenue amounting to 1.4 billion Canadian dollars.
