The Finnish regulator has received about fifty applications for licenses to operate in the country's online gambling market. This was reported by the Gambling Supervision Division of the Finnish National Police Board.

The regulator began accepting applications on March 1, 2026, following the adoption of a new gambling law in the country. Most of the applicants are foreign operators.

Although licensing and supervision are currently handled by the National Police Board, these responsibilities will later be transferred to a newly established government agency. Authorities have warned that they anticipate each application to take approximately six months to review. They have urged operators not to send frequent inquiries about application status as it slows down the processing.

The opening of a competitive regulated online gambling market in Finland is planned for July 2027. It is expected to end the long-standing monopoly of the state-owned company Veikkaus.
