Authorities in Malta are planning to revise the tax system for companies operating in the iGaming sector. The changes will take effect on October 1, 2026.

The key change will be the adjustment of VAT collection rules. Specifically, authorities intend to clarify which companies can qualify for VAT exemptions and which will be taxed, in order to avoid discrepancies in the application of regulations.

According to the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), the innovations are aimed at making Malta's tax system more transparent and understandable. Additionally, they will enhance the country's appeal to iGaming companies and investors.

The MGA emphasized that the updated rules will apply only to services provided within Malta. The regulator will later release clarifications for companies affected by the changes.
