The authorities in Kazakhstan have instructed telecom operators to strengthen their control over payments to illegal online casinos, including blocking transactions made through phone balances. This requirement was issued by the country's Financial Monitoring Agency.
Previously, the agency conducted an inspection of websites belonging to 10 illegal online casinos. It was discovered that the method of payment via phone account is actively used to bypass the existing restrictions in Kazakhstan. This method is available from all major telecom operators: Altel, Kcell, Tele2, and others.
Additionally, Kazakhstan plans to tighten rules on the promotion of illegal gambling in general. Earlier, a group of senators proposed the idea of introducing criminal liability for influencers who promote online casinos and organize prize giveaways.
