The Royal Battle of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds uses assets purchased in online stores on its maps, said the creator of the game Brendan Green. According to him, this is done so that the art department of the development team can concentrate on more important aspects of the maps.

Reddit users have repeatedly found assets in PUBG that were used on several maps at once or were similar to ready-made assets from the market for games on the Unreal engine.

Responding to criticism, Brendan Green said that when the game was just being created, the developers’ appeal to ready-made assets was inevitable. This made it possible to quickly and cheaply create maps and promote the game.

At one time, says Green, there were rumors that PUBG cards were completely outsourced or used exclusively purchased assets. There was nothing like this: even the very first map in the game included original designs. With each new location, someone else’s contribution becomes less.

As for including the same asset in several maps, Green does not see anything wrong here. He quoted the words of one of the leaders of the art department of PUBG Corp.:

“Why should my artist spend two weeks on an ordinary sculpture if he can spend these two weeks on something that will have real value for the players? How many times do I need to simulate a phone booth? How many times do I need to make a new sculpture for the cash register?”
