Square Enix has announced that the console MMO game Final Fantasy XI will get a second life on mobile devices. The Japanese company will cooperate with the Nexon developer.
Square Enix is preparing to release not a game “based on motives”, but a full-fledged port of the console version,” Venturebeat resource reports. However, it is not yet clear how the company is going to implement this, given the difficult genre to which the original belongs – MMORPG.
Interestingly, the announcement of the mobile version of the game appeared online simultaneously with the news that the console Final Fantasy XI is about to cease to exist.
The original Final Fantasy XI recently turned 13 years old and is long-lived by industry standards. The question of how exactly the company will attract attention to the port of such an elderly project remains open.
