The paid indie detective game Her Story diverges almost equally on mobile and on PC. The iOS version of the title accounts for 40% of sales.
Her Story is a project of Sam Barlow, the screenwriter of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Aisle. The game tells the story of a woman whose husband was killed in 1994. The user’s task is to find out who did it, for which he gets access to video recordings of interrogations of the main character. Interaction with the game is limited to the search bar. The user searches for videos of interrogations of a woman by keywords, and thus tries to understand who made her a widow.
Sam Barlow said in an interview with God is a Geek that he did not want to bet only on one of the stores. He believes that Steam is for those who are “in the topic”, for players who read specialized publications and are waiting for the releases of certain projects. And Barlow regards sales through the App Store as a way to “appeal to those people who don’t read gaming websites.”
Her Story was released at the end of June. As of July 9, it is in the top 200 most downloaded games of the American App Store according to App Annie. The game costs 149 rubles on Steam and 279 rubles on the App Store.
