The independent Stoic Games team, which owns the authorship of The Banner Saga game, is ready to share its own game engine with indie developers. This was told by the technical director of the studio John Watson (John Watson) in an interview with the resource Develop Online.

The engine for the studio’s title project – The Banner Saga – Stoic Games developed on its own.

And then she shared the technology with the Skyshine indie team. She launched the Bedlam title on the engine.

Watson emphasizes that Stoic’s developments were intended for one purpose – the creation of The Banner Saga. Therefore, the studio shared the engine with Skyshine due to the fact that the two games had a lot in common (and also because the leaders of both teams are old friends).

In the process of working with the Skyshine team, Stoic Games gained experience in supporting its own engine and a lot of additional documentation. Now the studio is ready to share technologies with other indie developers. She is especially interested in games similar to The Banner Saga. Along with the next patch to the game, the company published a tool for modifying the content of the game under the conditional name Zeno. Watson says that with the help of Zeno and the free DLC for the game, developers can try to rebuild The Banner Saga anew. “If a developer is interested in our engine, it will be useful to start by studying Zeno,” he comments.
