SuperData analysts shared an overview of the digital gaming market for October. The most successful projects of the month were Genshin Impact, Watch Dogs: Legion and FIFA 21.

Gamers continue to actively buy games in digital. In total, they spent $10.6 billion this October — 14% more than a year ago. The biggest revenue growth again came from consoles — 18% year-on-year. In second place is mobile with its 15% growth. PC segment revenue increased by 10%.

SuperData also notes that:

  • Genshin Impact became the most profitable game of the month. But the analysts did not name specific figures;
  • FIFA 21 has sold 1.5 million digital copies. For comparison, the initial circulation of FIFA 20 was slightly less — 1.2 million copies. But it is worth noting here that FIFA 20 was released at the end of the premiere month, and FIFA 21 — at the beginning;
  • but Watch Dogs: Legion release just three days before the end of October did not prevent it from showing excellent sales in the “figure” (1.9 million copies) and at the same time set a franchise record. At the same time, Watch Dogs 2 was bought only 431 thousand times at the start, although its release was in the middle of the debut month;
  • Digital sales of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time for November amounted to 402 thousand copies. This is less than the releases of the previous games in the series. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy had 520 thousand copies on its account, and Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled had 552 thousand copies. Nevertheless, the revenue of Crash Bandicoot 4 turned out to be higher due to the price increase from $39.99 to $59.99 per copy;
  • Star Wars: Squadrons sold 1.1 million times in “digit” and overtook Star Wars: Battlefront II (1 million copies sold). However, the game failed to achieve the success of the launch of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order — gamers bought the digital version of last year’s title 2.9 million times. Also, the new Star Wars can not boast of record revenue, mainly due to the reduction of the price tag of the game to $ 39.99;
  • The total revenue of subscription services Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Now and EA Play in October increased by 142% year-on-year. The number of subscribers themselves has also increased by 113%. Analysts attribute the explosive growth in both cases to the success of the Xbox Game Pass.
