In the USA, revenue from sales of video games, hardware and accessories continues to grow. Last month, the market turnover amounted to $4.3 billion — a billion more than in August.

The September report of The NPD Group is shared by the Venture Beat publication.

Overall market figures (September 2020)

  • In the first month of autumn, American gamers spent the most money on the games themselves and related content. This market share alone accounted for $3.8 billion, which is only half a billion dollars less than the total turnover. And just a month ago, the amount was an order of magnitude less — $2.9 billion. In annual terms, the growth also turned out to be rather big and amounted to 8%;
  • but the biggest growth was shown by gaming accessories. Their sales reached $191 million. This is 30% more than in the same period a year ago;
  • other fast-growing segments analysts called mobile devices and hardware;
  • the total revenue of the gaming market increased by 10% compared to September 2019.

Important: NPD tracks sales of physical copies from retailers and receives data on digital sales from publishers. But not all companies provide information. Nintendo does not disclose digital sales of exclusives, Activision Blizzard does not share information with Battle.net , and Take-Two does not always open statistics on the “digit”.

Also, the rating does not take into account microtransactions, subscriptions and something else besides the net sale of games. An asterisk marks titles in which digital sales were not taken into account.
