In August, American gamers spent $4.37 billion on video games, hardware and accessories, according to a recent report by NPD Group analysts. Ghost of Tsushima returned to the top three best-selling games, which rose 108 points in the ranking at once. But the first place went to the recently released Madden NFL 22.

- The total market turnover for the month increased by 7% in annual terms.
- Most of the money came from sales of the games themselves (on consoles, PCs and mobile devices), as well as cloud and subscription services. They amounted to $3.87 billion — an increase of 5% compared to August 2020.
- Another $329 million was accounted for by iron sales. They grew by 45% in annual terms.
- The revenue from the sale of accessories for the year has not changed. As in last August, it amounted to $164 million. The best-selling gaming accessory in August 2021 was the Xbox Elite Series 2 wireless controller.

Important: NPD tracks sales of physical copies from retailers and receives data on the “figure” from publishers. But not all companies provide information. For example, Nintendo does not disclose digital sales of exclusives, and Activision Blizzard does not share information from Battle.net .
The rating is also based on net sales of games (without microtransactions and subscriptions). An asterisk marks titles in which digital sales were not taken into account. And the familiar ones are titles that did not take into account sales in the “figure” on Xbox.
