Bloomberg: Cyberpunk 2077 sales will be among the best in the history of the industry

The start of sales of Cyberpunk 2077 will begin on December 10 — eight years after the first announcement of the CD Projekt RED game. Against the background of the upcoming launch, the shares of the Polish company are growing rapidly.

Developers and investors are pinning their hopes on the game, given the rarity of CD Projekt RED launches, Bloomberg writes in its material. Unlike competitors like Ubisoft and Activision Blizzard, which release AAA games annually, CD Projekt RED’s last big release was five years ago.

The situation before the start

• Cyberpunk 2077 has become one of the most expensive projects of the Polish company — $ 130 million. The previous major title The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt cost the studio about $67 million, of which $ 35 million was spent on advertising. It is not yet specified how large the advertising costs of the new new one turned out to be.
• Cyberpunk 2077 has already affected CD Projekt RED shares several times before its release. Last year, the securities of Poles doubled in price, their growth did not stop in 2020 (largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

Forecasts for the near future

• Analysts believe that in the first year of sales, the game will sell 30 million copies. This is more than was sold by another hit of the Poles, The Witcher 3, over the past five years since its release.
• If Cyberpunk 2077 meets the expectations of experts, then it will take the tenth place in the top of the best-selling games of all time. By the way, earlier the tenth line in the list was occupied by The Witcher 3.

• At the same time, the future of Cyberpunk 2077 may be greatly influenced by the ratings of game critics. If they are not high enough, title sales will collapse after them. As well as vice versa.

But despite the fact that critics have not yet rated Cyberpunk 2077, the first sales of the game may still be successful. According to CD Projekt RED, the number of pre-orders of the title is already “very pleasing” to the studio.

Note that the first journalistic reviews on Cyberpunk 2077 may appear today. However, there are still four days left before the official start of sales. It will be possible to launch the game on PC, Xbox One and PS4 (the title will also support backward compatibility with new generation consoles).
