Dynamics of the number of gaming devices (1st quarter 2014 and 1st quarter 2015)

The installation base of tablets and smartphones used for games exceeded 1.1 billion in the 1st quarter of 2015. Android accounted for about 75% of the total number of mobile devices. This is 4.3% more than in the 1st quarter of 2014. The share of the “Apple” OS fell by 2.3%.
The installation base of other devices (Windows OS, BlackBerry and Symbian) decreased by 2.3%.

In the first quarter of 2015, gaming apps accounted for about 30% of all downloads on iOS and approximately 40% of all downloads on Google Play.

The share of revenue from gaming applications in relation to total revenue on the App Store remained almost the same. On Google Play, it continued to grow.

User spending in both the App Store and Google Play increased compared to Q1 2014. For Apple – by 30%, for Android – by 50%. Revenues from games for portable consoles remained at the same level.

Spending by customers on games from the App Store increased in the Asia-Pacific region, remained the same in North America and decreased in Western Europe. For Google Play, the opposite is true: in North America, they began to spend more on games, nothing has changed in the Asia-Pacific region. Western Europe has also started spending less on Android games.

In the Asia-Pacific region, they began spending 2.3% more on games for portable consoles.

Games that support multiplayer mode are marked in blue.

In the top by downloads, 2 out of 10 games are multiplayer. There are more than half of them in the top by income – 6 out of 10. Supercell leads: 3 of the 10 highest-grossing games belong to the Finnish team.

Among the top 50 mobile games, multiplayer projects account for only 30% of the total number of downloads. But 60% of the income belongs to them.

Both of these indicators have grown over the year, and the amount of revenue is more significant than the number of downloads.

Highlights

1. Spending on games has increased significantly over the year, and for Google Play it is almost twice as much as for iOS.

2. There are more games that support multiplayer mode in the top in terms of revenue than those that do not support it.
