Yesterday at GDC it became known that the authors of Mortal Combat and Batman: Arkham City Lockdown have taken up the creation of a mobile version for their latest project Injustice: Gods Among Us.
NetherRealm is a team of developers who a few years ago returned the title Mortal Combat to its former popularity. Now their next game for consoles is on the way: a fighting game about battles between superheroes Injustice: Gods Among Us. The project will be released on April 19 on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and, as it turned out yesterday, around the same time on iOS.
There are no more details about the game, which is published by Warner Bros. on all platforms. So, whether it will be a full-fledged port, as in the case of XCOM, or a simple application “for reasons”, it is not clear.
Either the release of the game on iOS will be designed to become an additional advertisement, increase the audience of the original project, or, conversely, its task will be to “hog” the interested audience once again.
In the first case, the company needs a high-quality project that arouses interest. It is difficult, it requires a lot of money and effort. In the second case, everything is somewhat simpler. It is enough for the company to take as a basis the previous NetherRealm mobile project – Batman: Arkham City Lockdown, redraw the graphics and, putting a high price tag, put it on the showcase.
However, a third scenario is also possible, Warner Bros. they could well consider a mobile application as an additional way to monetize a large project. For example, so that only the owners of the mobile version of the game can purchase a new character for a large project.
As for an honest port, it seems unlikely to us. The project will have too big problems with management.
