Katsumi Oikawa will become the new Regional Director of Rovio Japan. The appointment takes effect on September 1.
Katsumi Oikawa will take the place of Antti Sonninen, who has been in the company’s management since 2011 and was officially appointed Regional Director of Rovio Japan in 2012.
Like the new president of Rovio, Pekka Rantala, Oikawa will have something to do. The Angry Bird brand is known in China and South Korea, but Japanese buyers are rather cool about it.
The new regional director will soon have the opportunity to prove his aptitude: Rovio announced that the new Angry Birds Stella game will be released in Japan as well. The Tokyo office is already planning a special marketing campaign with the participation of Stella the bird, the main character of the upcoming release.
It is interesting to note that Oikawa held leading positions in Apple, Samsung and Puma on his career path, so he is familiar with large corporations firsthand. However, he has no direct experience in the game industry.
