Players in Helldivers 2 will still not necessarily have to link Steam and PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts. Sony has announced that it has listened to the community and lifted this requirement.

"We are continuing to explore what is best for PC players, and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2. We will keep you informed of future plans," Sony wrote in an official statement.

Sony previously said that linking a PSN account to Steam would better protect players from abuse. It was assumed that all new users of Helldivers 2 would be required to use a PSN account from May 6, and all old players from May 30.

Arrowhead Studio CEO Johan Pilestedt wrote on X that he was impressed by the power of the Helldivers 2 community and the ability of players to unite. He also thanked Sony for the prompt decision-making.

Over the weekend, the rating of Helldivers 2 on Steam dropped very much: at the time of writing, the title has only 48% positive reviews for all time and 22% for the last 30 days.
