Without five minutes, the cult adventure game Monument Valley, inspired by Escher’s works and the game Fez, will be released on the digital shelves of the App Store and Google Play in a week.
Some studios “shoot” right away. The first project generates success, attracts the attention of the press and players. Money does not always follow this, but the problem with traffic for all subsequent projects is partially solved (the authors of the n-hit make an x-title – you need to write).
It is impossible to say so unequivocally about ustwo. It has been successfully operating in the field of digital design since 2004, has developed many mobile applications for popular brands like H&M, has grown to three studios (in London, New York and Malmo), but has not made friends with games.
By now, her main gaming “achievements” are the Blip Blup puzzle and the Whale Trail arcade, but things may change soon.
The fact is that the next game project of a non-gaming company – Monument Valley – attracted attention long before the release. The game, as far as can be judged from screenshots and videos, is a continuation of Fez ideas in a world as if invented by Maurits Escher. Meditative music and soft pastel colors are included.
The game will be released on the App Store and Google Play on April 3 at a price of $3.99.
Yes, we have been saying a lot lately that the game on mobile devices should be distributed for free. And we are not leaving these positions. But Monument Valley is, as it seems to us, more an art project than an entertainment one, so putting up a price tag here is not only understandable, but also justified.
